Park Hills Administrator Observes National Police Week & Honors The Park Hills PD
National Police week May 9-15
This week is National Police Week. It was first established in 1962 by President John Kennedy. The President proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. This was established by a joint resolution of Congress and pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and honors the brave men and women who are currently wearing a police uniform.
It has now been 59 years since President Kennedy made this proclamation and we now find ourselves living in a time where police officers are being unjustly criminalized and prosecuted for simply doing their duty. In many cities, officers are being disrespected in unimaginable ways. Their budgets have been slashed as has the number of police officers in many cities. If you just watch the news, it almost seems that several political groups, political activists, and even large city governments have declared war on their American Law Enforcement personnel.
Author George Orwell made this statement:
"People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men and women stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
Almost every police officer in America knows this quote. The emblem of the thin blue line shows just how seriously police officers take their responsibility of service to their community. Whether they are working nights, days, or weekends, they are the tough men and women who allow the citizens of their community to sleep well in their beds. I am proud of the men and women that make up the Park Hills Police Department and am proud of their dedication and desire to protect our citizens each and every day and would simply like to say "THANK YOU" to our own thin blue line for all you do.
If you get a chance this week, thank a police officer!
"Blessed are the peacekeepers, for they shall be called the children of God." —Matthew 5:9
