Park Hills, MO – The City of Park Hills is proud to announce that Paul Johnson, the Director of Parks & Recreation, has successfully completed the Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification course, a significant achievement in the field of aquatic facility management. This accomplishment will not only enhance the management of our brand-new aquatic facility, "The REEF at Columbia Park", but also ensure that the highest standards of safety and efficiency are upheld for community enjoyment.
The AFO certification, administered by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is recognized as the premier training program for pool operators and aquatic facility managers. The comprehensive 18-hour course covers essential topics such as water chemistry, filtration, disinfection, and facility operations management.
Paul Johnson was notably the only participant in his class who had not previously operated a pool, making his successful completion of the course particularly commendable. The AFO program is rigorous, with a detailed emphasis on the practical and theoretical aspects of operating a public aquatic facility. It is designed to equip operators with the knowledge necessary to run facilities that are not only safe but also operationally efficient.
The course culminates in an examination, which many candidates find challenging to pass without several attempts. However, Paul's dedication and hard work paid off as he passed the exam on his first attempt, demonstrating his commitment and ability to meet the high standards set by the NRPA.
As part of maintaining his certification, Paul will be required to renew his AFO certificate every five years. This process ensures that certified operators remain up-to-date with the latest practices and technologies in aquatic facility management.
The City of Park Hills is excited to offer our community top-notch aquatic services under the skilled management of Paul Johnson. His achievement not only reflects his personal dedication but also his desire to bring the best recreational opportunities to our residents.
Congratulations, Paul! We are immensely proud of you and deeply honored to have your dedication and skills enriching our city.
