PARK HILLS, MO, July 1, 2024 - The City of Park Hills is pleased to announce it has been selected to receive funding through the 2024 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) for a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The Southeast District's selection committee has approved the City's application for the Pedestrian Facility – St. Joe Drive Sidewalks, Project No. TAP-7100(010). The total project cost is $745,552.00, with federal funding contributing $596,441.60, representing 80% of the total.

This project will enhance safety and accessibility along St. Joe Drive from 7th Street to Simmons Avenue. Key features include:

  • New ADA-compliant sidewalks
  • New concrete curb and gutter
  • ADA-compliant concrete entrances
  • A grass buffer between the new 5' wide sidewalk and the road

Mayor Stacey Easter expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This funding represents a crucial investment in our city's infrastructure. By improving pedestrian facilities on St. Joe Drive, we're enhancing safety for our children, residents, and visitors while better connecting our residential areas to our Downtown Central Business District."

The project aims to encourage walking and create a safer environment for pedestrians, particularly children. It will also achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, ensuring accessibility for all residents.

The City will now proceed with the necessary steps to initiate the project, including executing program agreements and submitting a Request for Environmental Review.
